ANSYS FEA interface to AnyBody for medical implant analysis Ozen Engineering, an AnyBody partner in California, is putting the final touches for a one-way interface between AnyBody and ANSYS. This new program reads in AnyBody simulation results and writes out bone geometry and displacements/ rotations such that they can be used as boundary conditions in ANSYS FEA models; it converts anysurf files to stl's and read them into ANSYS solid modeling tools where one can add a medical implant for further analysis.
For instance, a spinal implant model can be affixed directly to the exported AnyBody movements in order to do finite element analysis. The AnyBody model can be changed or altered and those changes will be reflected in the ANSYS model, making the variety of test conditions for the implant as versatile as AnyBody itself.
Ozen Engineering will be exhibiting AnyBody as well as the new interface between AnyBody and ANSYS at the upcoming ASB Conference at Stanford University (Aug 22-25). Ozen will also present a paper at the CADFEM User's meeting in late November (November 20-23) in Dresden, Germany. This paper will outline how AnyBody, Any2ANS, and ANSYS can be used for medical device product development with a specific example in medical device to be used in spinal applications.

Analyzing data generated by AnyBody using MatLabJean-Olivier Racine, an AnyBody user at the ÉTS - École de technologie supérieure in Montreal, Canada has written a MatLab script that reads AnyOutputFile and creates a structure storing all data. It reads both the constant section and the variables (values) sections.
The script has been uploaded to the Yahoo AnyScript group under the name “readABO.rar” where it is available to everyone. Please give credits to J-O when using it. AnyBody in the newsAnyBody recently featured in an article entitled The body builders in the Automotive engineer magazine (June 2007) with AnyBody user Karl Siebertz, a biomechanics expert at Ford's Aachen Research Centre in Germany saying: CAE comfort evaluation is a key enabler for shorter product cycles and prototype reduction. | | Design of badminton racketsMaxine Kwan has started her PhD work in the AnyBody Project on design of badminton rackets. Maxine has been reviewing literature in the field of which there is very little, and she is currently developing the first dynamic simulation models of the racket swing and impact with the shuttle cock. The picture is from the first high speed video footage of the racket-ball impact. It was recorded a few weeks ago and will form the basis for understanding the impact phenomenon. We shall report more on Maxine’s progress as the project moves along. Hand modelAt the American Society of Biomechanics 2007 Annual Conference, August 22-25 at Stanford University, CA AnyBody user John Wu of NIOSH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown, WV, USA will present:
Modeling of the muscle/tendon excursions in an index finger using the commercial software AnyBody (coauthored with Kai-Nan An, Robert G. Cutlip, and Ren G. Dong), and
Modeling of the dynamic muscle force in an index finger during tapping (coauthored with Kai-Nan An, Robert G. Cutlip, Kristine Krajnak, and Ren G. Dong)
Another AnyBody work is also presented at this event. It is a poster: Shoulder mechanics: analytical modeling and validation by Noshir Langrana, Sue Ann Sisto, and Sarah Sullivan, Rutgers University. Welcome to Joachim Dahl and Yoqing ZhangJoachim Dahl, PhD, a mathematician, has joined us as a parttime employee as an extension to our development team. Joachim's focus will be the muscle recruitment algorithms, a critical issue as our models keep growing.
Yoqing Zhang, a software engineer from Shanghai University and Aalborg University, has joined us as a software developer.
